Got myself a Compaq Presario V3010AU notebook 2 months ago and installed FreeBSD. And finally got time to drop down some notes on setup of this laptop. I’m not keen to get it run on amd64, so i386 is the option to go.

Compaq V3000 series come with a layer lamination, subtle looking pinstripe patterns on the chassis, which ensures greater protection from scratches. The v3000 series truly looks and feels impressive.

In addition, I don’t pay for M$ Windows licence as the unit comes with FreeDOS preinstalled.

I’ve been toying with various combinations to get RoR run smooth on FreeBSD. RoR + Mongrel rails cluster + pound was fine; Apache + fcgid + RoR was fine too. The recent test (Apache 2.2.3 + mod_proxy + mongrel rails cluster + RoR) conducted was not going very well. Random crashes on Apache httpd.

Office SDSL which is used mainly for VPN, ran into trouble as upload appeared to slow and frequently failed. How do you troubleshoot a broken Lucent Cellpipe 50S router? Everything appears to be normal when you use it to surf the Internet. Download is extremely fast.
